Organizing Lesson Plans
Transcript
Welcome to the last video in this module. In this video, I’ll be talking about how to organize lesson plans and materials.
I’m sure it’s obvious why you want to organize this. It’s just gonna make your life easier. Setting up a system at the beginning of the year will help you form a habit and set you up for success.
Let’s first talk about lesson plans. Some of you do best by just winging it, but I do much better when I have my plans written or typed out. I use this weekly planning sheet to help me with this. I’m giving this to you today so you can feel free to use it how you’d like. Just click the download button below this video to get it.
I also have a blank template so you can fill it in however you’d like. With this PDF, you can either print it out and write out your plans, or you can type them. Each field is editable, meaning you can just type in whatever you’d like, save it, and then print it. You can keep reusing it!
I also like to make a list of the things we’ll need for the week on Sundays. That way I get them all together and ready to go for the week or I go to the store if I need something. I’m also giving you a planning sheet for this below this video.
Have you ever heard of a curriculum map? It’s a way to organize your whole year and plan out how you will teach everything. Some curriculums are planned out for you or even have a curriculum map, but some of you may be doing your own thing. If you would like to use my template for a curriculum map, you can! I’ll put it below this video.
Let’s move on to organizing lesson materials. I like to keep a crate with hanging file folders in our room. Each folder is for the week or it could be for each day of the week. It makes it easy to just drop the materials or printables we’ll be using in each file folder. One more thing I want to add…if you use a lot of printables, then I want to recommend a great printer for you to use! The program is called HP Instant Ink. I just pay $4.99/month to print 100 pages. When I’m running low on ink, they send me ink cartridges in the mail. It’s AWESOME! There are a variety of printers that work with this program. Check it out here.
I just want to share this with you in case you’re looking for an affordable way to print. I also want to share my favorite laminator. It’s a Scotch Thermal laminator. I’ve had mine for over 6 years and it works like a charm. I use this to make our printables reusable, so we’re not wasting paper. Plus the kids love using dry erase markers on them!
Alright, that’s all I have for organizing lesson plans. The biggest thing to take away is that you need to find what works for you. I shared a few ideas for organizing today, and maybe you’ll try it out and it works for you. But if it doesn’t, that’s ok. You’ll find your own groove and figure out a system that works for you. Great job getting through the lessons for this module! When you’re ready, join me in the next module, which is all about routines and schedules.
