Staying Motivated
Transcript
It’s hard to stay motivated, especially when you are burned out or even just stuck. Today I’m going to share some things I’ve done to help you when you feel like you can’t do it anymore.
• Start fresh with a new week – if you’re in the middle of the week and everything is going wonky and your child is having a rough time just stop and take a break. Start fresh again on Monday. There’s something wonderful about Mondays and getting us back on track again
• Do less – if you can tell your child is stressed out or overwhelmed, do less in your day. Some kids aren’t able to process everything and they just shut down. Maybe doing 5 things in the morning sets your child off. Stop and just do one or two things. I think some of us think we need to do everything like the schools do, but we don’t. That’s the beauty of homeschooling!
• Switch up curriculums – if you’re noticing that the curriculum you’re using isn’t working well for your child, change it! Or do an eclectic collection of activities and plan the lessons yourself.
• Take lessons outside – fresh air is good for everyone!! Or go on a field trip or invite a friend over to do the activities with you. • Join a co-op or meet with other homeschooling families
• Find a friend to help keep you accountable. This could be online or in real life. Someone to talk with, ask questions, and encourage each other to keep each other going.
• Involve your child – something that can work well is to have your child pick what they are going to learn about. Maybe they have a fascination with outer space, so you can do a fun unit study with the planets and facts about outer space. We talked a little bit about this on the lesson about interests. Involving your child in picking out what he wants to learn, may just help motivate him and get you back on track. Find books, do projects, go on a field trip
• Remember your why! This will keep you driven and moving forward. Display your why somewhere visible so you can refer to it!
All of those amazing and fun days you’ll have with your child, outweighs all of the tough days you have. A few more things you can try is cooking together, going on a road trip, being in nature, trying some art projects, or just sending the kids off to their grandparents for a few days.
You are making a big difference in your child’s life and it is SO important! I hope you see that and listen to this affirmation: I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy. I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it. We’re almost to the end of this course.
Join me in the next video for the last lesson in Planning Preschool. See you there!
