Importance of Self Care
Transcript
Welcome to the LAST lesson in Planning Preschool! You are amazing for making it this far. Seriously, I know how busy we all are, so I don’t say this lightly. Thank you for investing your time and energy into this course. I’m sure it will pay off greatly!
First, I want to share this quote. “It takes a big heart to help shape little minds.” On those really hard days, try to remember this.
Today I’m going to talk about the importance of self care. It’s easy to give, give, give when you’re a homeschool mom and then you end up forgetting about yourself. Maybe you don’t intentionally forget, but you have zero time to invest in yourself. I’m going to share some tips for you today. I know it may not be easy for you to do this, but I want to encourage you to try it. You don’t want to be teaching when you are running on empty. Trust me!
• Have a quiet time during the day for your child
• Plan out date nights or nights out with friends
• Try extracurricular activities or classes for your kids so they can be with other people and you can have some alone time (I realize this may not work well if you have a lot of kids!)
• See if family can watch your child on the weekend occasionally
• Find a hobby that is not involved with homeschooling. Try art classes, spend time baking just for fun, read books, or sing in a local choir
• Exercise – I think this is a big one for me. It gives me mental clarity and the endorphins help me stay motivated
• Keep a journal – if you like to write!
• Go on a trip with your spouse or loved one – having something to look forward to is always helpful!
• Get some pampering done – go get your hair cut or nails done
• Go shopping for a new outfit
• Make sure to drink enough water
• Grab your favorite drink or treat – on those hard days, treat yourself to something you love
• Listen to podcasts or music that encourages you
• Get enough sleep – this is probably my #1 tip. If you don’t have sleep, you can’t function properly. Develop good sleep habits! When you are not taking care of yourself, it’s easy to get stressed out, emotional (and even angry sometimes), and even lash out at your kids. I know you don’t want to be that type of parent, so I deeply encourage you to make self care a priority.
Alright, we are at the end of the Planning Preschool Course. I just want to say a BIG thank you! If I could jump through the screen and give you a hug, I would! I hope you know that your job as a home preschool mom is special and very important. Your child will be impacted by your involvement in their life and education. They may not show their appreciation now, but just know that you truly are doing a positive thing in their life.
I wish you all the best as you start this journey and I hope you know that I’m cheering you on!
