Organizing Materials
Transcript
Call me nerdy, but I LOVE organizing my materials. I’m not super type A, where I have to have everything organized all the time, but I love how I feel after I’ve spent a couple hours organizing. I especially love it when we get brand new school supplies and I fill our homeschool room with them. I know, I am a little crazy!
Today I’m going to share how we organize our materials. I hope these tips and tricks I share give you some ideas that you can implement right away! If you remember from the last lesson, I showed you the 9-cube organizer we use. Inside 6 of the cubes, there were fabric totes. All of them are from Target, by the way. Here’s a little peek at what is inside each tote. I’ve kept everything mostly the same.
Here’s what’s inside:
• anything related to teaching the alphabet
• lesson materials –which are things I need for the activities we are doing that week
• art supplies
• sensory materials – such as cups, funnels, scooper, tongs, etc.
• play dough – I just keep homemade play dough in airtight containers in here.
• math manipulatives and fine motor tools
On the top part of the organizer, I displayed our picture books.
In a different house, I also used these shelves to organize materials we used a lot, such as lacing cards, magnetic blocks, base 10 blocks, etc. These were the bulkier items that didn’t fit in the fabric totes.
Having the materials out on shelves where the kids had easy access to was really helpful for us.
I also want to share how I organize our craft materials. I love this spinning caddy I got from TJ Maxx. I keep our crayons, colored pencils, markers, and scissors in this organizer. It’s the best and I’ve had it for years.
In the past, I’ve also stored other craft materials in mason jars. I love how this looks in a homeschool room, too!
You may have noticed that I’ve used some labels for organizing. I’m sharing them with you so you can also use them. Look for the download button below this video to grab them. And just because I think you’re awesome, I’ll also share my toy bin labels, in case you’re also wanting to start organizing your toys!
Lastly, I want to share how I store my sensory play materials. Because I don’t want to waste things, after we’re done with a sensory bin I pour it into a gallon Ziploc® bag and keep it in a closet or on a shelf. This makes it easy for the next time we want to switch out our sensory bin.
